The Brooten Fire Department, with mutual aid assistance from the Belgrade Fire Department, battled and defeated a grass fire approximately two miles west of Brooten near the 22:00 hour on Wednesday, November 29. The ambient temperature at the time was 42 degrees, while the wind was reported at 26 miles per hour with gusts as high as 37 miles per hour in eastern Pope County - making fire fighting conditions truly dangerous.

From a distance, the fire appeared to be under control by 22:15.
