    At 11 a.m. on Tuesday this week, the doors opened for business at Classic Co. Bar and Grill in downtown Brooten. Over the lunch hour, head chef and manager Bob Paek reported that they had a nice crowd of about 20 people come for a bite to eat. Business remained steady throughout the day.     The Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Jaguars volleyball team came out on a mission to start the Sub-Section 5A-West playoffs and methodically took apart Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City in a 3-0 sweep on Thursday night. In front of a packed hometown crowd, with the B-B-E student section in a self-imposed "black out", the Jaguars jumped all over the Falcons while bolting to a 13-3 lead in game one.   • B-B-E Jaycees Halloween party

    The Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Jaycees sponsored a Halloween party for area kids on Monday, Oct. 26 at the B-B-E elementary school. Dozens of kids, parents and family members enjoyed over a dozen games with prizes. The B-B-E Dazzlers dance team was on hand to help at the game sites and did a wonderful job making the event fun for kids of all ages who participated.   • Classic Co. opening day is coming!

    Since the middle of September the town of Brooten has been buzzing about the activity taking place at Classic Co. Bar and Grill on the corner of Highway 55 and main street. Bob Paek, who started overseeing renovations on Sept. 14, remains as chef and manager of the bar and grill. While a firm opening date has not been set, the hope is to open on Tuesday, Nov. 3 (tentatively). In the regular season finale last Thursday at Pierz, the Jaguars claimed a 3-2 win to take the CMC title alone for the ninth time in school history. The Jaguars also shared CMC titles with Pierz in 2002 and Maple Lake in 2006.     The Minnesota Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a level III predatory offender who is no longer complying with the conditions of his release from prison. Rico Ronondo Rodriguez was released from prison on Aug. 8, 2015, to Intensive Supervised Release in Hennepin County. He has been on fugitive status since Oct. 26, 2015 when he cut off his GPS device and absconded from a halfway house in Minneapolis. Rodriguez is 34 years old.
