(HD video) Reporting on scene at 17:15 hours on Saturday, October 21.

At 4:45 p.m., a loud boom was heard in western Brooten when the external auger on a large (500+ bushel) gravity box clipped an overhead power line across Highway 55 between School Street and Western Avenue. The gravity box was pulled by a large tractor, and a white Dodge pickup was hooked up behind it. The power pole holding the line sits just east of the alley adjacent to the northern city park tennis courts.

Eyewitnesses report that the driver of the tractor pulling the gravity box was talking on a cell phone at the time of the accident. The tractor/gravity box/pickup combination continued driving through town. One eyewitness said that they sent another friend down the highway to wave down the tractor driver and let him know what happened.

The Brooten Fire Department was on scene within 10 minutes of the accident. By 5:10 p.m., Xcel Energy was also on scene assessing the damage.

*Update at 6:25 p.m.: the power was restored at approximately 6:20 p.m.
