The Brooten American Legion will meet at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7 at the Legion Hall.

B-B-E school board meeting

The Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa school board will meet in regular session on Monday, May 20 at 7:30 p.m. at the elementary school library; an elementary campus tour will precede the meeting at 6:45 p.m. Open to the public!

Grove Lake chapel steeple/roof repair fundraiser

Join others in Grove Lake on Sunday, May 26 for their Memorial Day weekend parade and picnic. This year they are raising money for the Grove Lake Chapel Steeple/Roof Repair project. Lunch is from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and a parade will take place at 1 p.m. The event will be catered by Lakes Catering, who will be donating food for the event. Menu: pulled pork, potato salad, chips, lemonade, water and coffee. All are welcome!

Big Grove Lutheran WELCA Memorial Day dinner, silent auction, cash raffle

The Big Grove Lutheran church WELCA group will serve a Memorial Day dinner with Silent Auction from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, May 27 in the church basement. A silent auction will take place from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and that includes over 300 donated items from very generous families and our awesome business community.

We will serve BBQs, salad, chips, pickles and bars with lemonade and coffee provided. The meal is free-will offering, and cash raffle to follow after 1:30 p.m.

Crow River Lutheran church Memorial Day dinner

The Crow River Lutheran church invites everyone to their Memorial Day dinner on Monday, May 27 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This event is a Thrivent Project fundraiser, and proceeds from this event (matched by Thrivent) will go towards helping church youth attend Bible camp this summer. Serving: meatballs, mashed potatoes and gravy, coleslaw, vegetables, dinner roll, dessert and beverages. Cost: adults $9, kids ages 5-12 are $5 each and kids ages 4 and younger are free.

The Elrosa Senior Citizens will hold their second Bologna Daze fundraiser meal of the 2019 season on Tuesday, May 28 at Bucky's Bar from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

The Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa high school will hold its graduation ceremony for the Class of 2019 on Friday, May 31 at 7 p.m.

B-B-E Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts Family Fun Day

The Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Boy Scouts troop and Cub Scouts pack will hold Family Fun Day at the Brooten City Park from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 1. They will have games, prizes, food, music and a special door prize. (Food and prizes provided by Thrivent Action Team and other donors.) While visiting the park, stop by the Recruitment Booth and see what scouting is all about! Ask about future planned activities, girls in scouting and what scouting can do for you and your family!

Belgrade VFW Steak Fry and Pork Chop Feed

The Belgrade V.F.W. will serve a pork chop and steak fry fundraiser on Saturday, June 1, 2019 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Everyone welcome! Menu: steak or two pork chops or one smoked pork chop, baked potato, coleslaw, roll and beverage. This is the last steak fry/pork chop fundraiser of the season, and they will take a two-month break in July and August before resuming this coming fall.

Kandiyohi County Dairy Days

Everyone is invited to the annual Kandiyohi County Dairy Days, on Saturday, June 15 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Carlson Dairy Farm in rural Pennock. KWLM radio will be broadcasting live and serving cheese, crackers, cookies and milk. They will also be giving away a grilling package from Belgrade Meat Locker when you guess the weight of the heifer. Guests can take farm trous, visit with Kandiyohi County dairy princesses (serving shakes) and get a close-up look at their 60-stall GEA DairyProQ rotary robotic milking parlor, one of the first of its kind in the U.S. Ridgewater College will have a combine simulator machine, and Nedap (livestock management technology firm) will be giving away two Fitbits. Kids activities include a calf station and a bingo / scavenger hunt. Additional information will be published in the Bonanza Valley Voice newspaper.

Spencer Otteson fundraiser golf scramble at Prairie View

Prairie View Golf Course in Brooten is hosting a fundraiser on Saturday, June 15 for Spencer Otteson, a Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa high school graduate (~2007) who was diagnosed with colon cancer in November 2018 and has undergone chemo and radiation treatments. The June 15 fundraiser is a three-person team golf scramble; $70 per person or $210 per team; registration starts at noon, and a shot gun start is at 1 p.m. with meal to follow; (Prairie View Golf Course is at 1000 Crow Lake Street in Brooten) The registration cost includes greens, fees, skins, cart and a pulled pork meal. Meal open to all starting at 5 p.m., with a free-will donation fee for non-golfers. For more information or to register a team, call the club house at 320-346-2677 or 320-894-1250. Second annual Redhead Creamery Curd Fest

Redhead Creamery is excited to announce that their second annual Curd Fest is coming on Saturday, June 15 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at their rural Brooten location (31535 463rd Avenue, Brooten, MN 56316) Join them for ridiculously good cheese curds, beer and music! The cover charge is just $5 for ages 12+, and children younger than 12 are free. "We will be celebrating all things cheese curds! We’ll be serving curds in all of their glorious forms, including fresh, fried, squeaky, melty, flavored, and on-a-stick. We also have several amazing guests joining us for entertainment and food sampling."

Sunburg Fire Department presents Diamondback

The Sunburg Fire Department invites everyone to their summer street dance on Saturday, June 15, 2019. This year they will host the premier band Diamondback at the Fire Hall (8 p.m. to midnight). Also taking place that day is a Bean Bag tournament starting at 1 p.m. ($20 a team). Cash payouts for the top three teams! Call Shawn to register at 320-429-1116. A food vendor and beer garden will be on site all day! All proceeds to towards updating gear for the fire department.

Chris Welte benefit

The KaDe Shack in Brooten is hosting a benefit for Chris Welte, who was severely burnt in an accident at home on May 10. Fundraiser details: Saturday, June 22 at the Ka-De Shack in Brooten. Motorcycle Poker Ride at 10 a.m., Hog Roast & Silent Auction at 5 p.m. questions contact Aaron @ 320-248-8289 or Ron @ 320-260-9298. On May 10 after the accident, Chris was airlifted to Regions Burn Unit in St. Paul after sustaining severe burns on his hands, face and side. He undergoes skin grafts on May 22 and will have a long road to recovery. Chris is a longtime Brooten resident, and volunteer fire fighter. Everyone is invited to the June 22 activities to help the Welte family and their medical expenses.

Belgrade high school Class of '78 reunion/60th birthday

The Belgrade Class of 1978 will hold a class reunion and 60th birthday party on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at the Horsehoe Bar in Spring Hill. It will start at 4 p.m. with meal at 6 o’clock.
