Veiled threats

It's come to my attention through multiple interactions with people in Brooten in the last 24 hours that some members of the public are horrified that I publish news. It is a "small town" thing, that we somehow think things are done differently here, and if there's wrong-doing going on with public officials - the media should look the other way?

I know what I'm getting into. I know what a "big wheel" looks like as it's coming at me. This is not my first rodeo. Officers of a town's Commercial Club are public officials, just not elected by the public. They are serving in a public organization, a non-profit, actually. To think I would look the other way or not write about it when wrong-doing is taking place is nothing short of laughable. I will not be intimidated.

If I can help it (and a great deal cannot be published right now) I will do what I can to tap down the rumor mill. I do not want the rumor mill driving this!

So to anyone who is horrified that I would publish news as a newspaper owner, I really don't have an answer for you. Whether or not I publish anything, nothing or something, once the major media latches onto this - the heat will be coming, and it will be out of our hands.
