Jaguar football wins playoff opener

Up next: section semifinals in Belgrade on Saturday, October 30

The Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Jaguars advanced in the Section 4A football playoffs after they defeated visiting Long Prairie-Grey Eagle by a 36-8 score on Tuesday. The Jaguars, who led 22-6 at halftime, are now 6-3 overall going into the section semifinals. This is their first playoff win since 2017, and it's their fifth Section 4A semifinal birth since 2010. The Jaguars were semifinal winners in 2010, 2012 and 2013. They lost in the semifinals in 2011 and 2017.

The No. 2-seeded Jaguars will host a tough-as-nails No. 3-seeded Browerville Tigers team for the second round of the playoffs. Kickoff is at 2 p.m. this Saturday, October 30 at the B-B-E high school stadium, when the Jaguars will host the Tigers for the second time this season. In the October 15 game, the Jaguars overcame a short-handed Browerville team in a 38-26 win.

Browerville (5-4) defeated No. 6-seeded Parkers Prairie (1-8) on Tuesday by a 28-12 score. In another Section 4A game, the Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg Fighting Saints ended Benson's season with a 20-0 shut out at Murdock. The Braves, who finish the season 3-6, were playing without their star running back Thomas Dineen. K-M-S (3-6) travels to No. 1-seeded Upsala/Swanville Area (7-1) for the section semifinals on Saturday afternoon. The Patriots had a first-round bye.
