Pope County Fair kicks off on August 2

Free, four-day event has attractions for everyone

The Pope County Agricultural Society invites everyone from across the area to take in the 131st annual Pope County Free Fair starting today (Wednesday, Aug. 2) and running through Saturday night.

On Wednesday night, the feature entertainment is a Birch Coulee Arena Ranch Rodeo on Hometown Hero Day at 6:30 p.m.

Thursday, Day Care Day, has a special Fun at the Fair Day camp from 8 a.m. to noon. Other events include a Racing Pigeon release at 10:30 a.m., Eurobungee from noon to 9 p.m., a dairy show at noon, a Lego contest at noon, plus Joah's Ark Pony Rides and a petting zoo from noon to 9 p.m.

The carnival opens at 5 p.m., and a carnival can drive special is 5 to 8 p.m., with a sheep show at 6 p.m., a salsa contest at 6:30 p.m. and the NTPA Tractor Pull at 7 p.m. at the grandstand.

Friday is Senior Citizens Day, and it brings another long list of 4-H animal shows, as well as the Rick Brix Do-Wop band at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., a senior citizens meal at 11:30 a.m., the Outstanding Senior Citizens program at noon, a one-man circus at noon and Joah's Ark pony rides and petting zoo once again from noon to 9 p.m.

Eurobungee is also from noon to 9 p.m, and a long list of other events happen in the afternoon. The carnival opens at 3 p.m., and the carnival wristband special is from 4 to 8 p.m. The State Fair talent contest is at 5 p.m., and the one-man circus act takes place again at 4 and 6 p.m. The always-popular demolition derby is at 7 p.m. in the grandstand to wrap up Friday.

Saturday is Family Day, with a kids pedal pull and baking contest at 11 a.m., the Franny Farmer show at noon and 3:30 p.m., free water testing from noon to 4 p.m., Eurobungee from noon to 9 p.m., Open Paint with Artbar 39 from noon to 4 p.m., Minnewaska Go-Kart racing at 1 p.m., a Princess Pageant and Superhero Showdown at 1 p.m., turtle races at 2 p.m., the Glacial Ridge Cattleman's Feed at the Little Red Barn at 4:30 p.m. and magician Tom Anderson at 4:30 and 6 p.m. The antique tractor pull is at 6 p.m. at the grandstand, and the Linden Hill Band is at 7:30 p.m.
