The Pope County Fair had a truly tremendous day of activities on Friday, August 1 in Glenwood. With temperatures hovering in the mid-70s and full sunshine, conditions were perfect for the outdoor events taking place at the fair. Marlin Henjum, local historian and retired school teacher, passed away on Tuesday, June 24 in Willmar. In 2021, Henjum released his book Wheat King that chronicled the life of Hans Henjum as he immigrated from Norway to America in the 19th century at age 18. Hans Henjum was a great-grandfather of Marlin Henjum. At the Ranch Rodeo held at Smilin'D Arena in Colfax Township on Friday, June 27, a birthday was celebrated for David Henke during the evening. Grove Lake area veterans and family members held a Memorial weekend program on Sunday, May 25. The community of Grove Lake hosted a Memorial program that featured local veterans and a short prayer service on the shores of Grove Lake at the township park. Children participated by placing wreaths and flowers at gravesites at the two cemeteries adjacent to County Road 39 south of town.
