In his Thursday, April 23 press conference, Governor Tim Walz ordered that school buildings in Minnesota would remain closed for K-12 education during the rest of the 2019-2020 academic year.

In conjunction with that announcement, the Minnesota State High School League has cancelled all spring sports and related school activities.

Currently, state officials are determining whether or not summer school programming will be allowed in Minnesota.

Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa superintendent Patrick Walsh said in an e-mail to district parents the following message:

"Earlier today, Governor Walz informed us that we will be Distance Learning for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year. Certainly, we were disappointed to hear this, but because of this order, we will be finishing this school year through Distance Learning."

"Foremost in our minds is the students who will not get to walk the halls this spring. Our seniors are such a great group and have earned their reputation across the board. They have posted the second highest average ACT score in B-B-E high school history! We will be holding their Graduation as planned, but we are not sure how we are going to do it. We miss all of our students, but have a special place for our seniors, who will not get to finish their school-age careers the way the rest of us have."

"I have one detail from the previous order to remind people of. We will not have Distance Learning for students on Friday, May 1 and Monday, May 4. Our teachers will be doing a state-mandated training on those dates. In addition, the MSHSL just announced that all MSHSL spring activities are officially cancelled for this spring."
