Plenty of food offerings available for Bonanza Valley Days in Brooten

Locals and visitors of Brooten will have plenty of food options over Bonanza Valley Days 2021! Below is the full summary with the latest and most up-to-date information. Any updates will be posted as they come. Below on this web article is a video from BVD 2016 at the Brooten Firemen's Chicken BBQ feed. (That's Friday night!!!)

UPDATE on Friday: due to supply chain issues (thanks, COVID)...the mini donut and funnel cake stand will only be open on Saturday. They will not be able to open tonight for the Friday street dance on main street. I just talked to them, and they are marvelous people from Raymond who are excited to be in Brooten! Make sure to stop by on Saturday and say Hi to them!

Thursday night, July 8

Following the worship service and concert in the city park on Thursday at 7 p.m., milk and cookies will be provided, courtesy of the BVD Committee, to help kick off the big weekend.

Friday, July 9

RJ's Mini Mart, the Chuckwagon and the KaDe Shack will all have a busy day with the youth baseball tournament in town plus the draw of garage sales. You can also bet that the Brooten Bakery will be a hot spot for gathering, food, coffee and socializing.

One of the major highlights of the BVD weekend is the Firemen's Chicken BBQ, a tradition that goes back decades in Brooten. This year's chicken BBQ is 5 to 8 p.m. at the city park, with seating available in the large tent, outdoor picnic tables in the park as well as the Brooten Pavilion.

Later in the evening, a food truck will set up and offer mini donuts, funnel cakes and other options on the north end of main street during the street dance.

Saturday, July 10

The big day of Saturday begins at the crack of dawn when Tom Kampsen's famous breakfast buffet is offered from 6 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. to coincide with the draw of the car and tractor show to spearhead a huge influx of visitors for Day III. (Details on page 3.)

Food options expand on Saturday morning as the car and tractor show gets rolling. The Bark N' Pig Smokehouse BBQ from Glenwood will serve from their set up in the open lot between the Classic Co. and It's All Good restaurant buildings on main street.

In addition, the B-B-E Knights of Columbus will sell root beer floats all morning from a set up next to the Brooten Bakery.

The food truck by the laundromat will also serve mini donuts, funnel cakes and more all day Saturday and late into the evening.

Starting mid-morning, the Sedan Fire Department will start grilling and selling hamburgers and hot dogs at the Brooten city park as the men's softball tournament heats up. Two years ago they served over 400 hamburgers...can that number be topped this year?

Stearns County Dairy Princesses will serve free milk and cookies on main street (9:30-11 a.m.)

Another food option available Saturday afternoon and into the evening on main street is BBQ sandwiches and more by the B-B-E Wrestling Club, who will be set up at the intersection of Second Street and Main Street in downtown Brooten. The KaDe Shack will again graciously donate 80 pounds of BBQ to the club to assist in fundraising.

At the fourth annual Vintage Snowmobile Show on Saturday, the Flavor Shack food truck will be set up from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The snowmobile show will be held north of the substation along Railway Avenue next to the train tracks. The Flavor Shack is based in Osakis and has become well-known.

Sunday

Visitors to the Brooten area plus local residents have a prime opportunity to support the B-B-E Scouts BSA on Sunday, as the local scouts gear up to serve a hearty breakfast with Grandpa's Belgian Waffles at the city park starting at 8 a.m. and ending at noon.

On the menu is: all-you-can-eat waffles, syrups and toppings, sausage, coffee, juice and milk are on the menu. Just $8 for adults is the price with kids ages 6 to 12 at $6 each.
