Heavily-favored Mountain Iron-Buhl is the top seed in the field. They were consolation champions last year after being upset by unseeded Minneota in the state quarterfinals.

The Jaguars earned the state trip with a 76-50 win over Barnum in the Section 5A championship game on March 10 at St. John's University. This makes three state trips in four seasons for the program, which first played in a state-qualifying game in 1995 when they lost 33-28 to New London-Spicer in the Region 5A finals at Halenbeck Hall, St. Cloud State University.

B-B-E's state quarterfinal opponent will be No. 4-seeded Underwood, champions of Section 6A. The Rockets (26-3) defeated Hancock 64-50 in the section finals on March 10.
