Jaguar volleyball heading to program's 21st subsection final (VIDEO)

A supercharged packed crowd on the home floor witnessed a see-saw battle play out across four sets of heated playoff volleyball last Friday, October 27 in Brooten. The No. 1-seeded Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Jaguars tussled with No. 4 seed Brandon-Evansville before putting the hammer down and cruising past the upset-minded Chargers with a 15-7 fifth-set win.

With their sixth straight sub-section championship appearance, the No. 13-ranked Jaguars play in the Sub-Section 6A-South finals on Thursday this week at approximately 8 p.m. at Fergus Falls high school. Their opponent will be No. 2-seeded West Central Area (21-9), who tied for third place with Melrose Area in the West Central Conference.

The winner of the subsection faces either Hillcrest Lutheran Academy or Underwood out of the north half on Saturday in the Section 6A championship. That match starts at 7 p.m. back at Fergus Falls high school.

After missing the sub-section finals in 2014, 2015 and 2016, the Jaguars have now made it to a championship playoff match every year since. The exception is 2020, when the volleyball season did not have playoffs. The first season with a sub-section championship berth was 1994, when the Jaguars blazed their way to the Sub-Section 5A-3 finals before losing an excruciating heartbreaker 3-2 to Sauk Centre.

B-B-E's first volleyball subsection title was earned in 1997 in Section 5A during the two-class format.

In the embedded video with this web article, the Jaguars are featured facing Paynesville Area in game one of the October 17 match in Brooten. Early in the clip, the Jaguars got a kill to tie the opening set at 22-22. That was an exciting night!
