Syttende Mai Festival, now the 19th annual, coming to Sunburg on May 19

Come one, come all! The Sunburg Area Commercial Club and its volunteers and supporters invite everyone to the first big celebration of 2024 for our area. The 19th annual Syttende Mai festival will be held in an all-day affair on Sunday, May 19.

The activities begin with a pancake breakfast at Hope Lutheran church from 7 to 9 a.m., with adult prices just $7.

Registration for the tractor pull opens at 8:30 a.m. at Glacial Plains Co-op.

A non-denominational church service at Hope is at 9:30 a.m. and will include fiddle music in the narthex after the service.

At 10 a.m., the Sunburg Trolls Car Club food stand opens in the Glacial Plains Co-op shed near the tractor pull site. This runs through 3 p.m.

Fiddle playing continues from 10 a.m. to noon at the park shelter near Willie Reigstad baseball field.

At 10:30 a.m., a tractor pull driver's meeting will be held at the co-op, and pulls begin immediately afterwards. The antique and out-of-the-field tractor pulls run from 10:45 a.m. through 3:30 p.m. (parade time). No bleachers are provided, so bring your own lawn chairs.

The Syttende Mai quilt to be raffled will be on display from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Sunburg fire hall. Tickets are available at the fire hall and Lake Region Bank in Sunburg during regular hours.

From 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. the Syttende Mai boutique will be held at the community center classrooms.

The Sunburg Trolls Car Club car display opens at noon in downtown Sunburg. Also, from noon to 3 p.m., the Kultur Hus will be open to the public.

The Norway Lake-Sunburg Lakers amateur baseball team hosts the Starbuck Stars at Willie Reigstad field at 12:30 p.m., and their food stand will be open during the game.

Fiddle playing continues for a third time of the day from 1 to 3 p.m. in front of the former cafe building.

The Grande Day parade, led by grand marshal Sandy Wick, starts at 3:30 p.m. To register for an entry, call 366-3896.

The Sunburg Firemen's supper goes from 4 to 7 p.m. at the fire hall (burgers, beans, potato salad). The cost is $8 for one meal and $10 for two.

The always-popular Syttende Mai kids pedal tractor pull behind the fire hall runs from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. This is sponsored by the generous support of Glacial Plains Co-op, Bowman Mowing Service LLC, Oakridge Farms, Troy Dunn Trucking, Michael Gjerde Farms, Pioneer Seeds and Lone Oak Ag.

The Sunburg Trolls Car Club raffle drawing is at 5:30 p.m. at the fire hall, and the quilt raffle takes place at 6 p.m.
