Shirley Ruth Jaggard Borgerding was born December 19, 1929, in Woodbury, NJ. Shirley was the third of four girls born to Vernon and Frances Wilhemina 'Billy' Jaggard. She graduated from Woodbury High School and then went on to attend Temple University in Philadelphia. To support herself through college she modeled and worked at Bell Telephone Company, which became her full-time job. Shirley met George Borgerding while double dating with her sister and her date, who happened to be George's commanding officer while he was stationed at McGuire Air Force Base. The double date was a success and both couples went on to marry. Shirley and George were married on June 26, 1954, at the Cathedral in Philadelphia and then settled in George's hometown of Belgrade, Minnesota.

Shirley used her many talents to make a lovely home for their seven children. She was a fantastic cook and skilled decorator. She made each holiday extra special for her family and Christmas was always magical with lots of decorating, great food and constant music. She had a lovely singing voice and would often be singing around the house. In addition to wrangling seven kids she was constantly baking, canning fruit, making jellies, and using her creative energies to sew decorative banners for church or tailor clothing for her kids. She would pack kids into the station wagon, load the horses into a trailer and spend all day at a horse show so her kids could do what they loved. The school programs and sporting events she attended are too numerous to count. Shirley was passionate about supporting political candidates and spent countless hours volunteering and campaigning. She was elected a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1984, 1988, and 1996.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, George (after 65 years of marriage); her daughter, Mary Barber; her parents and two of her sisters, Gloria Bain and Ella Johnson.

She is survived by her children: Brian (Karen) Borgerding, Jim Borgerding, Jean (John) Pupkes, Betty (Vincent) Battaglia, Paul (Valorie) Borgerding, Laurie Borgerding (Ashly Guest), and son-in-law William Barber. She is also survived by her sister, Joanne Saccomanno, and her sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Marge Borgerding, and Mary and Dale Gerding. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.
