The Elrosa Saints amateur baseball team got off to a solid start to the 2025 campaign. Thanks to multiple outstanding pitching performances on April 26 and 27, the Saints defeated Starbuck 7-0 and then Lake Henry 3-0.
In the Stearns County League opener at Lake Henry on Sunday, Will VanBeck started and pitched 5 innings while surrendering just 1 hit and 2 walks to go with 8 strikeouts. Ethan Vogt then pitched 3 innings (2 hits, no walks, 6 strikeouts), and Wyatt Steffensen earned the save as closer (1 hit, no walks, 1 strikeout).
Torii Johnson started against visiting Starbuck on Saturday, and the Minnewaska Area high school graduate pitched 4 innings with no walks, 2 hits and 5 strikeouts. Luke Dingmann relieved Johnson and got the win in 4 innings (3 hits, 6 strikeouts, 2 walks). Peyton Winter was closer with no hits, no walks and 3 strikeouts.
Next: the Saints continue SCL action with a home game against Greenwald in a North division border battle at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 4.
