Football team short on numbers, big on heart and desire this fall
The Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa football team opens the 2025 season with New York Mills in a non-district game. The Jaguars are coming off a successful 8-2 season that began a year ago with 8 returning starters in last year’s total group of 15 seniors.
Two of this year’s seniors, linemen Noah Kampsen and Nate Geer, return as third-year starters. The team has a total of 8 seniors, including Cameron Loe, Kameron Hiltner, Toby Hanson, Ian Szczesniak, Jesse Niklaus and Eli Wold.
With those 15 seniors lost to graduation, the coaching staff knew they would face the challenge of a smaller roster this fall. Preseason turnout has hovered between 29 and 31 players, and as of press time, the Jaguars have 29 players making up the varsity program.
The freshmen on the team total 7 players. The sophomore class has 12 players. Juniors on the team are just two: Aiden Mueller and Tyler Myers.
In spite of the low numbers, the Jaguars have strength in the line, where 6 players are listed at 205 or better: Nate Geer (225), Eli Wold (210), Cameron Loe (220), Noah Kampsen (250), Tyler Myers (230) and Toby Hanson (235).
Sophomore Lance Radermacher, 6’3” and 205 pounds, and junior Aiden Mueller, 6’0” and 160 pounds are listed at the quarterback position.
Two senior skill players return with ample varsity experience: Jesse Niklaus (6’0” 190-pound running back) and Kameron Hiltner (5’10” 150-pound wide receiver).
Other sophomores help round out skill positions, including Austin Berge (5’10” wide receiver), Grayson Rooney (5’11” wide receiver), Dylan Koob (6’0” wide receiver), Kaden Kollman (6’0” wide receiver), Mason Douvier (5’8” running back), Aiden Detloff (5’11” running back) and Walker Winter (5’10” wide receiver and quarterback).
The full season preview article was published in the August 28 issue of the Bonanza Valley Voice newspaper.
