Football Jaguars prevail in Week 8 battle, earn 2 seed in Section 5A (VIDEO)

The last game of the regular season went down to the wire, but the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa football team made the necessary plays to squeeze out a huge road win last Wednesday, October 15 at Brandon-Evansville high school in Brandon.

When the chips were down, the Jaguars displayed a tremendous level of heart on the game's final play to thwart a potential game-tying conversion attempt and preserve a 30-28 lead for the final score.

After posting a 18-0 halftime lead with a dominant running game, the Jaguars faced a Bolts defense that stacked as many as 9 players in the box. They went to the air to gain key first downs while adding two more touchdowns while withstanding a Bolts comeback that fell short.

The win raised B-B-E's Mid-Northwest Gopher District record to 4-3, good for a five-way tie for second place with Maple Lake, A/B-E, Benson and Browerville.

West Central Area placed seventh (1-6), and Long Prairie-Grey Eagle went 0-7.

Upsala/Swanville Area (7-0, 7-1) repeated as District Champions and also earned the No. 1 seed in Section 5A.

B-B-E earned the No. 2 seed for the second straight year, and for the 3rd year in a row, they get a first-round bye. The Jaguars (5-3 overall) host No. 3-seeded Ashby/Brandon-Evansville this Saturday, Oct. 25 at 2 p.m.

The Bolts hosted neighboring West Central Area on Tuesday in the quarterfinals and won 42-14. The game was tied 14-14 at halftime after WCA held a brief 8-6 lead early in the second quarter.

In the attached video, the Jaguars are shown scoring in the third quarter at Brandon. Aiden Mueller scores on a quarterback carry to give the Jaguars a 24-8 lead.
