Serious semi-involved accident east of Belgrade (VIDEO, UPDATE)

Accident occurred at approximately 8 a.m. on Tuesday, February 24

This accident took place shortly after 8 a.m. on Tuesday, February 24 on Highway 71 in Crow River Township. At the intersection of Highway 71 and Highway 55, a Cintas uniform truck collided with a semi tractor and trailer. The semi tractor ended up in the ditch south of Highway 71 facing straight south. Its trailer was parallel to the road in the ditch about 20 yards off of the shoulder.

The Belgrade Fire and Rescue arrived at the scene of the accident at 8:17 a.m. The Glacial Ridge Ambulance crew arrived on scene at 8:30 a.m. The ambulance could only travel about 40 miles an hour on the icy highway between Brooten and Belgrade.

Motorists are encouraged to avoid that intersection while emergency responders do their job.

The attached video was recorded at 8:23 a.m. at the accident scene.

Cintas is a Mason, Ohio-based professional work apparel and facility services company with multiple satellite Minnesota locations including Saint Cloud.

UPDATE on Tuesday afternoon, February 24: hopeful news to share that the driver of the Cintas truck received non-life threatening injuries. While severe, the impact between that truck and the semi tractor did not occur at anything near highway speed. Cleanup crews were still on site at 1 p.m. to take care of the semi and trailer. The Cintas truck had been pulled from the ditch by that time.
