From Saturday, April 4, at St. Donatus Catholic Church in Brooten.
The Easter Vigil at St. Donatus Catholic Church began with a blazing fire to truly dispel the darkness and light the night. Fr. Botzet blessed the fire with a prayer asking God to sanctify the new fire and pray for people to be inflamed with heavenly desires. Fr Botzet began the incense burning by holding it over the fire in a campfire roaster and then placed the burning incense in a thurible using the tongs. The incense is used as an expression of prayer and reverence. A procession with the lit Easter candle ensued into the church, proclaiming the Light of Christ. This symbolizes Christ dispelling the darkness with His life, death and resurrection. Worshipers also held taper candles that were lit from the Easter Candle as the procession passed through church. This served as a reminder for us that the Light of Christ is meant to be shared & carried into our daily lives.
The attached video features the first 40 minutes of the two-hour Mass that night.
