On Sunday, April 26 at the Eagle's Nest bar and grill in Regal, the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa speech team held their season-ending awards banquet. Team members, coaches, family and friends gathered for a meal and awards while celebrating having 6 letter winners this season. The speech season concluded on Saturday, April 18 at the Section 5A meet at Minnewaska. Five team members competed that day in the following categories: Hailey Henderson - Original Oratory; Surabhi Velez - Discussion; Eliana Funes - Dramatic Interpretation; Lauren Gaebe and Emily Rierson - Duo Interpretation.
The Most Valuable Speecher award was earned by 8th grader Eliana Funes. Coach Emily Sackreiter said, "Eliana won our MVP award for her dedication to the team and for uplifting her teammates throughout the season."
Most Improved speecher: junior Surabhi Velez, "For her dedication to doing multiple online practices and meets."
Most Decorated award: sophomore Marlie Schlangen. "For landing a spot in speech finals 8 times this season."
