It was not pretty, but the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa girls' basketball team survived a late comeback attempt by host Melrose Area after building a 17-point lead in the second half. A buzzer-beating three-pointer by the host Dutchmen made the final score 59-56 on Friday, December 19.
In another border battle on the road, the Jaguars traveled to Swift County on Monday, December 22 to Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg. The Fighting Saints (5-2) entered the night averaging 72.6 points per game. In spite of a terrific defensive effort, the Jaguars fell in a close battle 47-42.
Over the Christmas break, the Jaguars (5-2) participate in the Granite City Breakdown with games on Friday and Saturday, December 26-27, at Sauk Rapids-Rice (4:15 p.m. Friday) and at Sartell (1:45 p.m. Saturday against New Life Academy).
