The current Christian worship season of Lent is nearing its and as Holy Week approaches. Palm Sunday worship services will be held this weekend, March 29. At the Trinity and West Lake Johanna Lutheran parish of Brooten, mid-week Lenten services have been held on Wednesdays at Trinity. The parish of Trinity and West Lake Johanna is currently seeking a new pastor. They are fortunate to receive pastor-like services from Linda Summerlet, a Synod Authorized Minister (SAM) with the ELCA's Southwest Minnesota Synod who has worked in this capacity at Trinity and West Lake Johanna since last September.
The ELCA's Synod Authorized Minister (SAM) program trains and authorizes laypeople to lead congregations, offering pastoral care, preaching, and sacramental ministry (communion/baptism) where ordained clergy are unavailable. SAMs are not ordained pastors but are approved by bishops to serve, typically in smaller or rural churches.
