Saturday, July 11 is the big day of youth activities in Brooten
A special event in honor of the late Rick Thonvold takes place every summer during Bonanza Valley Days in Brooten. The Rick Thonvold Kids Pedal Pull is at 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 11 on Main Street; the set up is in front of the KaDe Shack. The contest features divisions for children ages 5 to 11, who can all qualify for the state pedal pull contest in Hutchinson. With enough interest, kids who are 4 years old can pull in an exhibition division.

Rick Thonvold, a 1987 Brooten high school graduate raised on a dairy farm in Norway Lake Township, was a long-time fixture of the Brooten business community as part owner of Brooten Auto with Scott Vogel. He passed away on March 1, 2016 and continues to be dearly missed in our community.
