The Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa football team hosted Tackle Cancer night for their Homecoming game, Friday, October 9 in Belgrade. The opponent was Benson, and both teams entered the game with hopes continuing on earning a No. 2 seed for the Section 5A playoffs.
During the pregame meeting of team captains with the referees, B-B-E's football captains included two additional guests for the coin flip while recognizing Tackle Cancer night. The guests were Bentley Deters and Easton Rood. Bentley, who is also a member of the team, is a son of Brandon and Joslyn Deters of Elrosa. Currently, Joslyn is receiving treatments for leukemia, which she was diagnosed with on September 12. Easton is the son of Casey and Nicole Rood, Belgrade-area farmers. Easton is a cancer survivor and a current third grader at B-B-E elementary.
As part of Tackle Cancer night, a free will donation was accepted from football fans during the Homecoming game. The proceeds were donated to the Deters family. Additional coverage of donations by the community was published in the October 15 issue of the Bonanza Valley Voice newspaper.
