The attached video is from Sunday, October 4 at West Lake Johanna Lutheran church, which is located in Gilchrist Township in Pope County. Included in the video are the reading of the lessons and Psalm, plus Minister Linda Summerlet providing the Holy Gospel and sermon.
West Lake Johanna and Trinity Lutheran of Brooten have had a parish agreement in place since the 1960s. Their pastoral needs are currently served by Linda Summerlet, who works for the ELCA Southwest Minnesota Synod in the position of a Synod Authorized Minister (SAM). Linda has worked in this capacity at Trinity and West Lake Johanna since last September.
The ELCA's Synod Authorized Minister (SAM) program trains and authorizes laypeople to lead congregations, offering pastoral care, preaching, and sacramental ministry (communion/baptism) where ordained clergy are unavailable. SAMs are not ordained pastors but are approved by bishops to serve, typically in smaller or rural churches. The attached video includes Linda providing her thoughts for the week, which is how she likes to conclude worship service.
