    The outlook is grim for states such as New York and California, which have some of the worst leaders on the planet. These are people who put in an extra effort to be especially terrible at leading a state. From the middle of 2022 to the middle of 2023, the state of New York lost over 100,000 people. Amazing! To be that terrible at leading a state government, these states' governors have to put in extra effort at doing awful work every day of the week.     Main Street in Brooten was the site of multiple activities on Saturday, December 9, featuring the annual Brooten Santa Day. The fun concluded with a lighted Christmas parade north of the KaDe Shack and traveling south down Central Avenue. A total of 14 units participated, with a group of horse riders bringing up the rear in style. Temperatures hovered in the upper 20s. It was a fantastic day in Brooten!     Here's a video featuring the Christmas songs performed by the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa high school choir on December 18 at Olson Auditorium in Belgrade. This choir includes students in grades 8-12, and they performed the following songs: Covenantry Carol, French Carol Duet, and Holiday Road of Carols. Once that choir concluded their final song, students in grades 6 and 7 joined the senior high choir for an All-Choir performance of Peace, Peace; in the third verse, the crowd obliged the request to join in singing Silent Night.     The Sunday School students of Sunburg Free Lutheran church in Norway Lake Township performed their Christmas program on Sunday, December 17. Two feature photos with the students gathered in the Baby-in-the-Manger scene were published in the December 21 issue of the Bonanza Valley Voice newspaper.
