Brooten Senior Citizens collecting donations for Eagles Healing Nest

Collections wrap up on December 13 to prepare for delivery

The Brooten Senior Citizens group is collecting donations for Eagles Healing Nest of Sauk Centre, a veterans complex on the former Minnesota Correctional Facility.

Eagles Healing Nest first opened in June 2012 and had one building and 22 available beds for homeless veterans. Today that figure has expanded to multiple buildings on the campus and 64 beds with over 300 veterans served in a typical month. The organization is a 501(c)3 non-profit that is owned by and for the veterans it serves.

Currently, 65 veterans are receiving full-time help at the Nest.

The Brooten Senior Citizens group is collecting the following items: baking supplies, personal hygiene products, paper products, pens, paper, envelopes, board games and puzzles.

The public is asked to drop off items at the Brooten American Legion hall on Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon. They will collect from November 22 until December 13, after which the items will be delivered to Eagles Healing Nest before Christmas.

With any questions, please call Laverne Reining at 320-346-2878. She would like to add that the veterans really love “homemade cookies”!
