What's Happening at Central Square

Glenwood's civic and community arts center's upcoming events

Central Square and Civic Center in Glenwood has announced a number of upcoming events and programs as the summer of 2019 winds down.

Students and the Arts

As summer winds down and the kids head back to school, it's that time of year to contemplate the various extracurricular activities that your children will participate in during the school year. Keep in mind the impact the arts have on a child's development. While some arts can be more physical, such as dance or martial arts, all arts help to develop the creative side of the brain and deeper cognitive thinking. Parents should be encouraging kids to add arts to their weekly schedule.

Here are a few programs offered at Central Square during the school year:

Just for Kix provides young dancers a learning environment focused on team work, proven dance technique and confidence building. Committed to youth dancers advancement through performance, Just for Kix believes in every student. Backed by 35 years of experience, the dedication to enabling dancers to shine creates a learning environment like no other.

Taekwondo classes focus on improving students fitness and coordination as they progress to learn new martial art skills at each belt level. Fun and safe youth classes develop students character and self-discipline, while reinforcing positive behavior during all individualized lessons. As students reach goals to promote to new levels of achievement, more challenging self-defense and traditional Taekwondo material is presented to teach martial art students the tools they need to be successful.

Piano lessons by instructor Courtney Zierke are available for beginner to advanced levels. Individual classes are scheduled on Wednesday and Thursday (after school until 8 p.m.).
