Wanted: historical school photos from across the B-B-E district

Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa schools is asking the public for photographs from the full history of local public education in the district, dating back to the turn of the 20th century.

The request is part of a robust project that will add historical-themed graphics at both school buildings. The idea in play is to add historical graphics based mostly on photographs at the new cafeteria area on the north side of the elementary school and in the current cafeteria area of the high school.

Presently, the wall adjacent to the high schools' cafeteria, which flanks the south side of the main gymnasium, includes plaques and pictures of foreign-exchange students and members of the B-B-E Hall of Fame classes of 2015 and 2018.

At the January 25 school board meeting at the high school, Superintendent Patrick Walsh explained, "We want to get the creative process started in house, and first we need a wide variety of photographs from across the district and across the full history of our local education."

"We want to have activities represented over the past 100-plus years. Both communities had their first graduating classes a little over 100 years ago. We certainly have much to cover, but we want to give our best effort at representing all the generations."

Across the next four to five weeks, the school is soliciting help from the public. Print photographs and digital files are both welcomed. The more the better.

"This is our one shot to do this correctly," he said.
