Belgrade's August Fest begins tonight! (VIDEO)

It all begins tonight with the FREE concert in the park and more, with music by Custom Made Band playing from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the city park on South Highway 71. The concert is part of a community celebration that also includes a free petting zoo from 5 to 8 p.m. plus an evening meal.

The FULL schedule is found on page 14 this week in color ink in the Bonanza Valley Voice newspaper...thanks to the support of a variety of local business sponsors.

Below is a brief breakdown of upcoming events.

Thursday August Fest opening activities

On the evening of August 8, a petting zoo at the city park runs from 5 to 8 p.m., and a meal by Queen Bee's will be served from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the park shelter ($9/plate pulled pork BBQ and meal or $7/plate hot dog and meal). Music will be played that night by Custom Made Band from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in a concert that's sponsored by the Belgrade Co-op.

Activities pick up on Friday

Activities continue on Friday with a pickleball tournament (1 p.m. at the high school), a mini art show at the Belgrade library (2 to 6 p.m.), the Belgrade Fire and Rescue chicken dinner and Kensington Bank ice cream social at the VFW (4:30 - 7:30 p.m.), sand volleyball at the city park (5:30 p.m.) and the Belgrade Lions Club bean bag tournament in downtown Belgrade (5:30 p.m.). Note: a youth bean bag tournament takes place on Saturday, August 10.

For the pickleball tournament, please contact Superintendent Patrick Walsh (320-583-2972) to get this event off the ground in successful fashion to get your team signed up in advance. The Bonanza Valley Days pickleball tournament had 10 teams, so let's see if we can get 10 or more lined up for Belgrade.

The sand volleyball tournament is sponsored by the B-B-E Blaze Junior Olympics volleyball program.

Friday night concludes with a free street dance featuring Dee Jay Sounds at the V.F.W. (8 p.m. to midnight).

Saturday for August Fest features a lengthy list of activities starting with the B-B-E Scouts BSA Troop No. 667 waffle feed from 8 a.m. to noon by the Post Office on main street.

August Fest activities officially conclude with a community worship service on Sunday, August 11 at 11 a.m. at the city park. A meal will follow (free will donation) and all are welcome.
