CLAY CITY is coming to Bonanza Valley Days!

A special event focusing on the arts instead of sports is Friday, July 11 in Brooten

For the second year in a row, the Great River Regional Library and the Belgrade Library are sponsoring Now. Make. Art as one of numerous activities coming to Brooten for Bonanza Valley Days. This event runs from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Brooten city park gazebo area on Friday, July 11. If you drive to the city park, you can park on the east or west side and walk to the location near the city park shelter. The GPS address is 180 State Highway 55 in Brooten.

This arts-related event will take place under tents in the city park, making it a rain-or-shine event with some limitations. Weather-related announcements will be posted to the Brooten Minnesota page on Facebook.

Event details for Clay City at Bonanza Valley Days: Young people and their caregivers create their own additions to an enormous CLAY CITY made from earthen clay, bits of wood and stone, and playful props. Drop in and take your time-spend 5 minutes, 30 minutes, or the whole event time creating! This is for all ages, with a special focus on children 10 and under with adult caregivers. This program is made possible with Arts and Cultural Heritage Funds from Minnesota's Clean Water, Land, and Legacy Amendment.

In 2022, Bonanza Valley Days added an Art in the Park event for the Friday lineup of events in Brooten. That summer, children did tie-dye shirts. This was added as an additional youth activity above the traditional Friday activity of baseball that BVD has for boys in grades 3, 4, 5 and 6. In 2023, BVD's Art in the Park featured kids coloring posters about their favorite summer activities. The following winter, BVD organizers connected with Great River Regional Library staff to inquire about arts-related programming they could bring to Brooten in 2024. This resulted in a special chalk art event called "Color X" that had over 70 kids participate! This led to GRRL staff expanding it from a 2-hour event to a 3-hour event for 2025.
