Grove Lake area veterans and family members held a Memorial weekend program on Sunday, May 25. The Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa baseball team successfully opened the Sub-Section 6A-South tournament with a 12-2 in in 6 innings. The opponent was No. 7-seeded West Central Area. Seniors Luke Illies and Brett DeRoo split pitching duties for the Jaguars, who are looking to return to the Section 6A championship game for the sixth straight season. A marvelous fireworks show by Precocious Pyrotechnics was fired off east of the football stadium on Friday, May 23. The show was part of the Class of 2025 graduation from Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa high school. Their commencement ceremony was held that evening at the football field with picture-perfect conditions featuring almost full sunshine, almost no wind to speak of along with perfect temperatures in the upper 60s. The Brooten American Legion held a Memorial Day program on May 26 at the Brooten Pavilion. The Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa high school band performed patriotic music, and the guest speaker was B-B-E elementary principal Josie Dingmann. She is a granddaughter of the late Harold and Harriet Jacobson, who passed away this past winter. They were long-time members of the Brooten American Legion and Legion Auxiliary. This week, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) greatly altered the government's COVID jab recommendations for the public. The new recommendations bring the United States in line with just about every other country in the western world. In a nutshell: COVID jabs will now only be recommended for those in high-risk health situations or senior citizens age 65 or older. On Wednesday, May 21, members of the graduating Class of 2025 at Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa were greeted by K-5 elementary students in Brooten. On Sunday, May 18 in Sunburg, musicians with the Sunburg Community Players performed numerous songs at two separate outdoor conferences. These music performances were part of a long list of family-friendly activities for all ages at the Sunburg Syttende Mai celebration. The Sunburg Syttende Mai grand parade lasted around a half hour and included a wide array of local businesses and service groups. The community of Grove Lake hosted a Memorial program that featured local veterans and a short prayer service on the shores of Grove Lake at the township park. Children participated by placing wreaths and flowers at gravesites at the two cemeteries adjacent to County Road 39 south of town. On Wednesday, April 30 at the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa elementary school, band students in grades 4 and 5 performed numerous musical pieces to kick off the spring concert held that afternoon. Kensington Bank in Belgrade recently completed a major renovation to its lobby, which included moving its teller stations and creating a new, spacious customer seating area with a coffee bar and snacks plus a new conference room.
