The Brooten Buccaneers 1973 football team will hold a 50th anniversary reunion of their special football season in which they went 9-0 that fall. A major police investigation this fall involved a scam that hit this area, including the city of Belgrade. The Elrosa Fire Department hosted their annual fall steak fry fundraiser on Saturday, October 14. The event was held at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic church with both a drive-through taking place in the parking lot and a sit-down dinner in the church basement. Altogether, they served 733! Turnout, enthusiasm and excitement ran strong on Saturday at Crow River Lutheran church for their annual WELCA fall soup and supper and auction fundraiser. They had 44 bidders for the auction, and anything over 40 represents a very good turnout for that event! Over 200 were served for the supper, and all 1,200 tickets were sold for the WELCA quilt raffle. Belgrade is exploring the idea to build a new fire hall, a matter that was discussed at the city council's regular meeting held last Monday (September 18). Ziemer Auctions and Terry Hilbrands held a consignment auction in Belgrade on Saturday, September 9, as patches of rain held off for the most part while passing through the area. John Anthony Sluss (80) formerly of Brooten, MN died August 3rd in his new home of Urbana, IL after a fall. John was preceded in death by his parents, Martha (Wilhite) and Anthony Sluss; and his sister Susan Sluss. John leaves behind his wife, Beverly (Brown) Sluss and his daughter Colleen (Jon) Gorman. A major corrective surgery at Rochester Mayo for out-of-control scoliosis afflicting the oldest daughter of the Bonanza Valley Voice publisher's family was a "total, 100 percent success" on August 24. Children and adults from all over the globe travel to Rochester to treat what ails them, so to have this medical facility right here in our state is a blessing.
