On Saturday, January 14, two members of the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa middle school band attended a one-day band camp at Elk River high school. To conclude the day's activities, students gathered there for the Central Minnesota Band Association honors band performed a concert at Elk River high school's George Zabee auditorium. Sugar beet harvesting has become a time-honored tradition each fall across the Bonanza Valley area and beyond. The method used consists of two separate machines, one that cuts the top off the plant and the other that digs them up and lifts them into a storage hopper for transport. This year a total of 11 houses were made over a two-plus week period of time leading up to the final week before the Christmas break. In this rare gem of a video, the official start of the Centennial celebration in Brooten began with a flag-raising ceremony in front of the former Brooten high school. This was held on Friday, July 18, 1986 at the flag pole west of the building. Former Mayor Kay Mohr gives a speech in this video. The community of Brooten was glowing on Saturday. Former teacher and mayor Kay Mohr would have been very, very proud. The day of Saturday, December 10 was crazy busy from start to finish in Brooten. The communities of Belgrade and Brooten are excited to host Santa Day events on Saturday, December 10. Belgrade goes in the morning, and Brooten holds their activities later in the afternoon with a 6 p.m. lighted Christmas parade.
