With our October 15 issue, the Bonanza Valley Voice newspaper had the highest-ever number of subscribers in the 51-year history of the newspaper. The newspaper list mailed out included 1,555 subscribers. Circulation this fall has shot past 1,620 on a rolling, weekly average. Bud Heidgerken was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame on Sunday at a ceremony held in Austin on Sunday, September 13. Pope County Farm Bureau sponsored its annual breakfast on the farm on Monday, Labor Day, and served 660 people throughout the morning. With a goal of limiting crowding and gathering, a simple drive-through set up was used, with visitors entering on the north side of the fairgrounds and then driving down the fairway past machinery, education booths and farm animals. On Wednesday, August 19, three trees were cut and cleared from the east side of the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa elementary school. They were cleared to make room for the school remodel and renovation project that is coming over the next 12 months. Video below features one of the trees being cut down....
In the August 27 issue of the Bonanza Valley Voice, a front page article talks about a proposed housing project at Lakeside Foods, Inc. in the town's industrial park. The story was incorrect in saying that approval was given by the city council to build it. What was provided was a "go ahead" to continue seeking approval, which is a big difference. Many hoops of government administration have yet to be jumped through by Lakeside Foods, although as it appears, the project should have no problem...
Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa kicked off the 2020-2021 school year on Tuesday, August 25. The district is offering both in-person and remote learning for K-12 students, with about 90 percent of students opting for the in-person model. The Elrosa Saints amateur baseball team saw their season come to a close at the Region 15C tournament on Saturday, August 15 in Greenwald. They were gunning for a berth in the Class C state tournament against St. Martin but fell short in a 4-0 loss. Elrosa finished 11-4 overall. A partial power outage for the city of Lowry on Wednesday, August 12 has led to a one-day delay in the delivery of the August 13 issue of the Bonanza Valley Voice newspaper. Power was not fully restored in Lowry until close to 2 p.m., which delayed the printing press and the subsequent delivery of the mail bags to the Brooten Post Office. This meant the St. Cloud mail truck left town without the August 13 newspapers. It was a rough day on Wednesday for the newspaper, to say the least!
