Marlin Henjum, local historian and retired school teacher, passed away on Tuesday, June 24 in Willmar. In 2021, Henjum released his book Wheat King that chronicled the life of Hans Henjum as he immigrated from Norway to America in the 19th century at age 18. Hans Henjum was a great-grandfather of Marlin Henjum. At the Ranch Rodeo held at Smilin'D Arena in Colfax Township on Friday, June 27, a birthday was celebrated for David Henke during the evening. In the attached video, guests at the arena were treated to a Happy Birthday song as part of the fun and excitement. Multiple competitions took place that night, including steer sorting and steer penning. A youth steer riding competition kicked off the events. On Thursday, July 3, the first wave of Bonanza Valley Days T-shirts went on sale in Brooten at two locations. The public can stop and purchase T-shirts at the Bonanza Valley State Bank on Central Avenue or at The Shed (Jana Mae's, Earthy Elements and Meraki Salon) on Highway 55 East (950 Highway 55). The second Farmers Market of the 2025 season was held on Thursday, July 3 at the Brooten city park shelter. The Brooten Farmers Market was re-started in 2023 and took place again in 2024. It is held weekly on Thursdays from 4 to 7 p.m. as a rain or shine event.
