Herman "Hermie" TeBrake, 72, of Brooten, passed away on Monday, March 13, 2023, at the Belgrade Nursing Home. A celebration of life for Herman was held from 2:00 for 4:00 pm on Sunday, March 19 at the Brooten Community Church basement. Herman Jan TeBrake was born on June 7, 1950 in Glenwood, MN, the son of Herman and Jeanette (Zylstra) TeBrake. The Belgrade-Brooten police department finished 2022 with a total of 1,837 incident complaint reports (ICRs) on the book. This represents about a six percent increase from 2021, when the total was 1,731 between the two towns. Belgrade-Brooten Police Chief Casey Jansky reported to the BB police board that new Automatic Electronic Defibrillators (AEDs) are in service. Sugar beet harvesting has become a time-honored tradition each fall across the Bonanza Valley area and beyond. The method used consists of two separate machines, one that cuts the top off the plant and the other that digs them up and lifts them into a storage hopper for transport. In this rare gem of a video, the official start of the Centennial celebration in Brooten began with a flag-raising ceremony in front of the former Brooten high school. This was held on Friday, July 18, 1986 at the flag pole west of the building. Former Mayor Kay Mohr gives a speech in this video. Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa elementary and B-B-E high school both hosted Veterans Day programs on Thursday, November 10. The elementary program, held in the morning, included members of the Brooten American Legion and Legion Auxiliary in addition to students participating with reading and music selections. In his October report to the Belgrade-Brooten Joint Police Board, Chief Casey Jansky said that his department's call volumes are up a fair amount from this point in 2021 but appear lower than what 2020 brought. "We are currently at 1,650 incident complaint reports for the year," said Jansky. "Last year we hit that figure on December 15, so we are up a bit from 2021 where we finished at 1,737.
