The Brooten American Legion Ranten-Sunflot Post No. 288 hosted a Memorial Day program on May 30 at the Brooten Pavilion. Severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall had passed over the area before sunrise that day, so the event was moved indoors from its usual location of Memorial Park. This also happened in 2019. On the evening of Thursday, May 12, a significant thunderstorm, wind storm and rain storm passed over the Bonanza Valley area with brute force. The Belgrade city council learned at Monday's (April 18) meeting that the city recently won a judgement in conciliation court against former apartment tenants. This puts the tenants on the hook for over $11,000 of unpaid rent plus extensive damages to the dwelling, all of which took place during the pandemic when the city was unable to legally evict them. The Belgrade, Brooten and Elrosa zip code areas posted a two for new COVID-19 cases in the April 21 report by the Minnesota Department of Health.
