At approximately 08:45 on the morning of Wednesday, January 13, a snow plow collided with an eastbound train at the railroad crossing west of Brooten on 493rd Avenue. Plans are being made for a full afternoon of activities at the annual Christmas in Brooten and Santa Day celebration on Saturday, December 12. A revamped schedule has been worked out through cooperation and planning between the Brooten Commercial Club and the B-B-E Cub Scouts. The result is a somewhat tighter schedule than in previous years but the same, if not more, level of activities and fun for the whole family. If I had endless time and many free hours each day, I'd write about every veteran I could find in our area. Instead, with limited free time in the past two weeks, I decided to focus on the oldest veterans I could talk to and go from there. Since the middle of September the town of Brooten has been buzzing about the activity taking place at Classic Co. Bar and Grill on the corner of Highway 55 and main street. Bob Paek, who started overseeing renovations on Sept. 14, remains as chef and manager of the bar and grill. The Minnesota Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a level III predatory offender who is no longer complying with the conditions of his release from prison. Rico Ronondo Rodriguez was released from prison on Aug. 8, 2015, to Intensive Supervised Release in Hennepin County.
