    A serious three-alarm fire claimed a barn in rural Brooten just before sunrise on Monday, June 6 at the Heidi Kinzler property. Responding to the 911 call were the Brooten, Belgrade and Elrosa fire departments. Eyewitnesses driving by say the flames from the fire shot high above the barn at one point. By 7 a.m. the fire had been mostly put out, although smoke continued streaming from what was left of the roof.     A fatal accident resulting from a car-vs. semi collision just under a mile north of Elrosa claimed the life of an Elrosa man, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.     For the second year in a row, the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa girls' golf team fell just short of a trip to the Class 1A state golf meet.     A total of 43 members out of the 47 graduating seniors of the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Class of 2016 participated in the annual ecumenical Baccalaureate service on Wednesday, May 25 at Big Grove Lutheran Church. Pastors from area churches gathered with the seniors to honor their faith and wish them well as they were about to graduate from high school just two nights later.     Allegra TeBrake, age 16, is an 11-year survivor of brain cancer. Allegra had a new surgical procedure done in January 2016 and the family is currently facing expenses for travel to various appointments.     Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa's 29 track and field athletes had some outstanding performances up and down the lineup at the Sub-Section 6A-21 meet held at the University of Minnesota-Morris on Thursday, May 26.     The 27th annual graduating class of Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa schools held their annual commencement on Friday, May 27 at the high school gymnasium. Class valedictorian Alyssa Dalen and salutatorian Austin Trustheim gave senior speeches.     "Taking my Hand Out Of My Pocket" is an autobiography written out of a therapeutic and necessary need for healing for and by Lorie Tensen, the youngest child of the late Gerard Tensen and Doris Tensen of Brooten.     The weather was absolutely perfect on Sunday, May 15, when Sunburg held their 12th annual Syttende Mai celebration of their deep-rooted Norwegian heritage. On Wednesday, May 4, the B-B-E elementary fifth and sixth graders performed a band and choir concert. It featured the first public performances of the newly-formed fifth and sixth-grade Jazz Band.     The Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa elementary sixth graders received spruce trees from the Belgrade Rosebud Garden Club last Friday. This has been an annual event for the club for the past 30 years. The Southwest Conservation District has been supplying the club with trees during these years and estimate that over 2,000 trees have been distributed to local sixth graders over that time.     David Heinze of Elrosa graciously spent part of last Friday showing Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa upper elementary students how to make homemade ice cream. With the assistance of his wife, Carol, and his daughter-in-law, Julie, Heinze brought a small John Deere gas engine to power a rotating drum that contains ice and a slot for ice cream ingredients.     The B-B-E fifth grade Math Masters competed at the regional competition in Alexandria on April 22 in a group totaling 176 students. Overall B-B-E's team took fourth place out of 38 teams.     A topsy-turvy, back-and-forth affair played out on Sunday afternoon (May 1) as the Elrosa Saints and Spring Hill Chargers resumed their storied amateur baseball rivalry at Chargers Field.
