The community of Grove Lake hosted a Memorial program that featured local veterans and a short prayer service on the shores of Grove Lake at the township park. Children participated by placing wreaths and flowers at gravesites at the two cemeteries adjacent to County Road 39 south of town. On Wednesday, April 30 at the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa elementary school, band students in grades 4 and 5 performed numerous musical pieces to kick off the spring concert held that afternoon. The Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa speech team held their season-ending banquet on Saturday, May 10 at the Eagles Nest Bar and Grill in Regal. Kensington Bank in Belgrade recently completed a major renovation to its lobby, which included moving its teller stations and creating a new, spacious customer seating area with a coffee bar and snacks plus a new conference room. On Saturday, May 3, gun safety training was held for 38 youth from surrounding schools, including Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa and New London-Spicer. Jerry Huls, who taught and coached at Brooten schools from 1979 to 1983, passed away on Tuesday, April 29. He was the Brooten Buccaneers head wrestling coach during those four years and also taught K-6 physical education at Brooten elementary school.
