An unforseen mechanical problem during routine water tower maintenance (cleaning) in Brooten has led to an hours-long water outage across town on Tuesday, June 21. The issue arose around 10 a.m. today, and it appears that it will take at least a "couple more hours" until it's resolved, according to city staff. At B-B-E, all activities have been canceled for today at the elementary school, and the day care is closing as of 1 p.m. Families have been notified. Update: city staff is optimistic that the water issue should be resolved by 4 p.m....

It was bound to happen with spotty Internet service and pushing things to the last minute at The Voice. On the early hours of Wednesday, June 8, a network error caused the June 9 issue of the Bonanza Valley Voice newspaper to lose its classified and back pages. Initial publishing directions were sent, delivered and received to and by the printing press for a 12-page issue, but while publishing took place, two extra pages were added. After a lengthy Mother Nature-induced delay to start their season, Elrosa's amateur baseball team has rocketed off to a 5-0 start starting with a 4-0 win over the visiting Meire Grove Grovers on Sunday, May 15. Two weekends ago in two road games, the Saints won 15-5 at Lake Henry on May 21 and then 9-7 at Spring Hill on May 22. The Brooten American Legion Ranten-Sunflot Post No. 288 hosted a Memorial Day program on May 30 at the Brooten Pavilion. Severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall had passed over the area before sunrise that day, so the event was moved indoors from its usual location of Memorial Park. This also happened in 2019. Under picture-perfect conditions of full sunshine, no wind and seasonal temperatures hovering around 70 degrees, a total of 53 B-B-E graduates were honored and recognized as they received their diplomas.
