One of the major fundraisers for the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa school activities fund is currently underway. The B-B-E fall Fruit Drive began earlier this month and will run until the end of the business day on Friday, November 8, the last day that forms can be turned in. Operation Warm, the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa community winter clothes drive, will continue on Wednesdays each week through the fall and into winter. The clothing drive has been an overwhelming success, according to organizer Geri Putz. During the week of October 16 to October 19, a large volume of clothing was picked up by families from around the area. Weimerskirch was hired as a math teacher and coach at Belgrade high school in 1962. Daniel Schweiters, age 76, of Belgrade was driving his 2002 Polaris Ranger side-by-side southbound on Stearns County Road 175. As Mr. Schwieters was negotiating a left-hand turn onto 265th Street, he was struck from behind by a 2002 Ford Explorer driven by Juan Martinez of Melrose. Mr. Schwieters was ejected from the UTV and sustained a severe head injury. Life Link airlifted Schwieters to the St. Cloud Hospital where he later died.
