Just as the Glenwood Waterama parade was about to get underway on Saturday, July 31, a huge fire broke out at an enormous warehouse building on the Glenwood Township / City of Glenwood line east of town. A manhunt is underway in the Belgrade area after the driver involved in a two-car accident west of Belgrade fled on foot on the morning of Saturday, July 30. The accident took place at approximately 10:40 a.m. involving a mid-2000s model Chevrolet Equinox (gray color) and a mid-2000s model Chevrolet Impala (silver color). For 32 years, Brooten School District No. 737 and then Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa School No. 2364 has had the honor of having Brad Goodwin on its teaching and coaching staff. The course covered two miles, starting and ending on the southeast corner of the lot of the former Brooten and B-B-E Senior High school. The Brooten Community Church ties its local origins back to Peter Mastbergen, who migrated from Sheldon, Iowa, to a farm five miles south of Brooten in 1914. The family of the late Gary Breitbach were gracious hosts to 16 teams at the 10th annual Gary Breitbach Memorial golf tournament, which supports the Gary Breitbach Memorial scholarship program for Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa school graduates. Gary passed away in August 24, 2006 after a courageous battle with cancer. Staff and students at the Jaguar Kids Connection and Tri-Valley/Head Start programs, located at the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa elementary school, held an Independence Day parade on Friday, July 1.
