  • Horror on Halloween: Jaguars volleyball season ends in semifinals

    Randy Olson|Nov 5, 2015

A shocking end crushed the hearts of Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa players and fans alike on Saturday night when the Browerville/Eagle Valley Tigers throttled the Jaguars in a 3-1 sub-section semifinal win at Long Prairie. After B-B-E won continuous sub-section semifinal matches in Class 2A from 2002 to 2006 and then in Class 1A from 2007 to 2013, they have now lost two straight in that stage of the playoffs and have gone 1-1 in the postseason two years in a row. The season's end came without warning,...

At 11 a.m. on Tuesday this week, the doors opened for business at Classic Co. Bar and Grill in downtown Brooten. Over the lunch hour, head chef and manager Bob Paek reported that they had a nice crowd of about 20 people come for a bite to eat. Business remained steady throughout the day. When I stopped by with my family for supper at about 6 o'clock, traffic through the door picked up quite a bit. Overall, Paek and the rest of his crew were quite pleased with how the first day went. Their menu...

The Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Jaguars volleyball team came out on a mission to start the Sub-Section 5A-West playoffs and methodically took apart Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City in a 3-0 sweep on Thursday night. In front of a packed hometown crowd, with the B-B-E student section in a self-imposed "black out", the Jaguars jumped all over the Falcons while bolting to a 13-3 lead in game one. Head coach Kevin Weller knows that's exactly what's needed each and every night they can continue playing in the...

  • Football team's thrilling playoff win

    Randy Olson|Oct 29, 2015

It was not a game for the faint of heart. Trailing 19-7 in the third quarter, the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Jaguars football team had their work cut out for themselves against a surging Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity team on October 14 in the Section 4A playoff opener. For most of the game to that point, with seven minutes on the clock, the Jaguars were hamstrung offensively. It continued to the next series, when they went three-and-out, miffed a punt and gave the Bulldogs the ball on the B-B-E...

"I got a call about two months ago from Wes Von Eschen talking about the Hall of Fame you guys have put together. Right away I think of all the other people who should be considered for something like this. What a privilege it is to be up here with you."
