A law enforcement response from multiple agencies took place in Belgrade on Monday, November 1, as a hostage situation unfolded around 12 p.m. on the north side of town. Law enforcement staged their response to the situation outside the Belgrade Police Department, with as many as 21 squad cars gathered at one time on Main Street. Belgrade Lions members were busy at a full house in the Brother’s Bar in downtown Belgrade for a good portion of last Friday evening, October 29, for their annual fish fry and cash/meat raffle fundraiser. Members and friends of Big Grove Lutheran church in North Fork Township, Stearns County, held their annual fall supper and auction fundraiser on Friday, October 22. The event was thoroughly entertaining from start to finish as they raised funds for the general church budget. The Brooten city council heard a proposal by Gary Skarpness to develop a five-spot R.V. park at the former gas station across Highway 55 from Rooster's Bottle Shop. Skarpness addressed the council at the Monday (October 25) meeting. Skarpness told the council that the five spots would have water, sewer and electrical hook-ups. A three-alarm chicken manure fire took place in western Bangor Township on Tuesday, October 26. Late in the afternoon of Monday, November 1, law enforcement personnel were able to take into custody an individual who allegedly had stabbed another person this morning. An ebb and flow pattern is in play for the current COVID-19 wave across the Bonanza Valley area. This is the third wave of spread since it all began either in early 2020 or late in 2019. The new number of 19 represents the number of new COVID-19 cases reported by the MDH for the 4,300 or so people living in the Belgrade, Brooten and Elrosa zip codes.
