The Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa school board approved the fiscal year 2016 levy at Monday’s regular meeting at the high school. The local levy, which will help fund operations for the 2016-17 school year, is set to include a 7.74 percent increase from last year. The biggest source of the increase stems from the Long-Term Facility Revenue category of $107,630. This is a new funding stream approved by the state legislature. On Monday, December 7, the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa high school bands and choirs held their annual Christmas/Holiday concert. Performing were the Percussion Ensemble, the Junior High choir, the Junior High band, the Senior High choir and the Senior High band. On Monday, November 2, the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa National Honor Society held its formal induction at the B-B-E High School. The program began with President, Alyssa Dalen, and Vice President, Joe Reller, welcoming the guests. Next, a poem was read by Jennifer Boyle about how to be a leader. The opening night of "Avenue Q: School Edition" by the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa theater company was a smashing success. The Floriculture team also competed and used the contest as a building block for the future. Teams had to identify quite a number of greenhouse, garden, and houseplants, take a written knowledge based test, place two classes of saleable plants, and set up a bud vase with a saleable display. The Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Jaycees sponsored a Halloween party for area kids on Monday, Oct. 26 at the B-B-E elementary school. Dozens of kids, parents and family members enjoyed over a dozen games with prizes. Attending a small high school like Brooten gave Sherwood Sagedahl an opportunity to play four varsity sports – football, basketball, baseball and track & field. He remembers having a goal to "letter" in all four sports in one school year so he could get the "B" and the sport pins. He reached that goal his senior year!
