The Trinity and West Lake Johanna Lutheran church parish held a joint service at the Brooten city park on Sunday, July 27. The worship was a special farewell service for Pastor Jeanne Megorden and her husband, Pete, as she is retiring from the Lutheran Ministry at the end of the month. Easton Rood, who will be a third grader this fall at Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa elementary school, has now beaten back two different bouts with cancer. On June 18, he returned from a 216-day stay in Rochester where he fought off AML Leukemia while going through a successful bone marrow transplant. At about 7 a.m. on Wednesday, July 23, the Brooten Fire Department and Brooten Ambulance responded to a fire call on School Avenue. The fire was located in a private home that is currently unoccupied and for sale.
