The life of Dawn (Glesne) Larson changed in an instant in a motorcycle accident on July 24 on Highway 10 near Royalton. The motorcycle, driven by 43-year old Thomas Knott of Royalton, crashed into the ditch. Knott left Larson in the ditch and put the motorcycle back on the highway. Plans are being made for a full afternoon of activities at the annual Christmas in Brooten and Santa Day celebration on Saturday, December 12. A revamped schedule has been worked out through cooperation and planning between the Brooten Commercial Club and the B-B-E Cub Scouts. If I had endless time and many free hours each day, I'd write about every veteran I could find in our area. Instead, with limited free time in the past two weeks, I decided to focus on the oldest veterans I could talk to and go from there. A shocking end crushed the hearts of Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa players and fans alike on Saturday night when the Browerville/Eagle Valley Tigers throttled the Jaguars in a 3-1 sub-section semifinal win at Long Prairie. At 11 a.m. on Tuesday this week, the doors opened for business at Classic Co. Bar and Grill in downtown Brooten. Over the lunch hour, head chef and manager Bob Paek reported that they had a nice crowd of about 20 people come for a bite to eat. Business remained steady throughout the day. The Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Jaycees sponsored a Halloween party for area kids on Monday, Oct. 26 at the B-B-E elementary school. Dozens of kids, parents and family members enjoyed over a dozen games with prizes. Since the middle of September the town of Brooten has been buzzing about the activity taking place at Classic Co. Bar and Grill on the corner of Highway 55 and main street. Bob Paek, who started overseeing renovations on Sept. 14, remains as chef and manager of the bar and grill. Undefeated conference champions has a nice ring to it. In the regular season finale last Thursday at Pierz, the Jaguars claimed a 3-2 win to take the CMC title alone for the ninth time in school history. The Jaguars also shared CMC titles with Pierz in 2002 and Maple Lake in 2006.
