  • Down to the wire

    Randy Olson|Jun 2, 2016

For the second year in a row, the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa girls' golf team fell just short of a trip to the Class 1A state golf meet. At Benson for the Section 5A state-qualifying finals on June 1, the Jaguars went toe-to-toe with Minneota for top honors. It was a barn-burner over the two-day affair, and when the dust settled the Vikings held a two-stroke lead on day one and then beat the Jaguars by one stroke on day two. Final Section 5A girls' golf playoff standings: 1st) Minneota 722 2nd)...

    Randy Olson|Apr 28, 2016

Their last meeting resulted in the end of Elrosa's season last year at the Region 15C tournament, a state-qualifying game no less. Through three innings Spring Hill led 4-2. After seven innings were complete, the Chargers expanded that lead to 6-3. Elrosa got two runs back in the top of the eighth inning while...

    Randy Olson|Apr 7, 2016

The Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa track and field teams kicked off the 2016 season with the indoor Central Minnesota Conference meet last week Tuesday in St. Cloud. The meet was a chance for the athletes to get a taste of competition and also break up the monotony that can creep up during preseason drills. First-year head coach Tina Bauleke has a strong turnout of 30 students on her varsity roster between the boys' and girls' squads. Overall the track and field program has 36 student-athletes between...

  • FINALS-bound!

    Randy Olson|Mar 3, 2016

SAUK RAPIDS - The final minute of the game was not for the faint of heart. After trailing for nearly the entire game against Kimball Area, the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa girls' basketball team had their backs to the wall with 36 seconds left in the Sub-Section 5A-South semifinals on Saturday, March 5. Their defense, battered and bruised all game by a strong post and interior game plus a few key three-point shots by sharp-shooting Cubs guards, shined when it mattered most in the final minutes....

  • Another Jaguar joins 1,000-point club

    Randy Olson|Feb 11, 2016

Since her eighth grade season, Hailey Braegelman has been a force on the basketball court for the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Jaguars. Now a junior, Braegelman has done something few high school athletes can in their careers: join the 1,000-point club. Braegelman entered the home game against Maple Lake with 995 career points. She scored two field goals early in the first half, and at the 11-minute mark she hit a 10-footer in the lane against traffic to surpass the 1,000-point mark. The game was...

  • Boys' basketball wins in five OT vs. HLWW!

    Randy Olson|Feb 4, 2016

While games going into three overtimes are generally unheard of, games ending in five overtimes are even more rare. The B-B-E Jaguars boys' basketball team can say they've been a part of a five-overtime game, though, and better yet they can say they've won such a contest. Last Thursday at Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted, the Jaguars played in just the eighth five-O.T. game in the history of the state of Minnesota. Clearly not a game for the faint of heart, the Jaguars managed to put the Lakers away...

  • Jaguar wrestlers 5th at home invite

    Randy Olson|Jan 7, 2016

Led by championship efforts by Canon Swanson (106 pounds), Adam Jaeger (138) and Ben Thompson (195), the 11th-ranked Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Jaguars wrestling team took fifth place at their home invitational on Saturday. While Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg ran away with the title with 183 team points, a bottleneck occurred between second and fifth place. With 119.5 points, the Jaguars missed third place by just five team points. What hurt them the most was only having three wrestlers getting into...

    Randy Olson|Dec 24, 2015

The 3-0 mark in the CMC has B-B-E sitting in a first-place tie with Eden Valley-Watkins. In second place in a tie are Pierz and Maple Lake. The Jaguars (5-1 overall) had an early 10-7 lead with 15:20 left in the first half...
